About Redbubble

Redbubble is a marketplace for independent artists to sell their work, headquartered in Australia and with offices in San Francisco and Berlin. It offers a print-on-demand service for independent artists to design and sell products. Artists can include their designs on a wide range of products, including t-shirts, mugs, and coasters. The Australian stock exchange listed organization generates over A$400m in annual revenue.

Spreadsheet pain

Before implementing OnPlan, Redbubble used a series of google sheets for planning and analysis. Historical financial information for its five legal entities would be copied and pasted manually out of NetSuite and into various google sheets, which would then update a master google sheet used for forecasting and reporting. Key HR information from various payroll software packages would also be updated manually.

The FP&A team wanted to improve its processes by removing the manual elements of the processes to free up more time for analysis. It also wanted to increase the engagement of non finance staff by involving them more directly in the budgeting process and by giving them live access to relevant financial information.

Before OnPlan

After OnPlan

  • Before OnPlan

Manual export of data from Quickbooks / Salesforce to the planning spreadsheet took hours and relied on the availability of the group’s controller and spreadsheet owner 1

    After OnPlan

Data from Quickbooks / Salesforce is now automatically updated in OnPlan. This has saved hours of effort and no longer relies on the availability of the group’s controller 1

  • Before OnPlan

‘What-if’ scenarios were time consuming to set up and update. Structural changes to the base model meant starting from scratch when analyzing scenarios 2

    After OnPlan

‘What-if’ scenarios are now being used more often as they can be set up in seconds and they are automatically updated for changes in the base model’s structure 2

  • Before OnPlan

Sharing the planning model outside of the finance / C-suite was difficult due to sensitive information in the planning spreadsheet 3

    After OnPlan

Redbubble has been able to allow access to its financial model to a wide range of users, while protecting sensitive information using OnPlan’s tailored permissions 3

  • Before OnPlan

Redbubble had designed tailored dashboards for its CEO and CFO to allow them to manage the organization. The organization had the right data, but it was time consuming to collate 4

    After OnPlan

Redbubble has been able to maintain tailored dashboards, while improving visualizations and automating the data capture 4

I really love the user interface, modularity, and power of the platform. It makes a very complex process much easier to manage. I love the fact it tracks your updates so you can see people’s thinking at various points in time.
